REGIONAL PREPARATORY MEETING FOR THE ARAB REGION ON INNOVATIVE APPROACHES TO REACHING WOMEN, GIRLS AND THE MARGINALIZED

A regional preparatory meeting on the theme “Innovative Approaches to Reaching Women, Girls and the Marginalized in the Arab Region” was held on 9 December 2010 Doha, Qatar in preparation for the 2011 ECOSOC Annual Ministerial Review with a focus on education. The meeting, was held in the context of the (6-9 December 2010), hosted by the Qatar Foundation, in cooperation with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

The meeting brought together a diverse group of regional stakeholders. Participants discussed how innovative approaches, policies and targeted interventions can help reach women, girls and the marginalized. The meeting consisted of a panel discussion and a luncheon for Ministers and Heads of Delegation from the Arab Region attending the WISE conference.
